Young Now | Group Exhibition
10 June - 2 July
HAZARD Gallery presents Young Now, a group exhibition featuring a selection of young and emerging artists from Southern Africa, currently practicing within the region.
The exhibition considers the status, perception and representation of young people in contemporary society through the artists’ experiences – past or present. Starting with this as a curatorial proposition, Young Now weaves together the work of artists from different positions. The result is a loosely drawn landscape that resists homogenized views and instead, highlights multitude and plurality through representations and performances of being young,
The responses differ from artists to artists resulting in an illustration that reflects our time and place with concerns as wide as popular culture, memory, activism and resistance, queer life, self-image, escape, difference and belonging. This exhibition spans sculpture, printmaking, photography and installation to knit varied experiences of being young.
